Kia Ora, My name is Shital Juthani. I'm a Business studies teacher and Financial Capabilities teacher at Tamaki College. My school's focus is to enable all the teachers to be tech savy so that they can use technology with ease and to make teaching learning process much easy, disruptive and effective. Being a new teacher, I believe this is a greate opportunity offered to me to attend DFI course which will unable me to use technology in more effective way and much faster.
First DFI Session is Core Business. Session started with Karakia done by Vicki Archer, lead facilitator of DFI. She went through the agenda today and all facilitators introduced themselves. Then we all were sent to break out room in our group and we had a chat in our digital bubble. We introduced each other. and Naomi introduced herself and she went through the agenda.
Maniakalani Session- Dorothy Burt
It was enchanting to know how Manaiakalani came into existence in November in 2006 and how they come up with the name. Manaiakalani came into exsistance due to four pillars Equity, Achievement, hope, 21st century learning. she went through the goals of Manaiakalani. She shared how 2006-2010 initial years were. It started with literacy learning with create, learn and share. In 2010, students showed their whanau how they learned literacy digitally. In 2010, Manaikalani Education Trust was founded and Fusion networks came to set up the internet connection. They choose Google because it was the only collaborative. 2010-2013 was a pilot phase. In 2014, they revised the plan and created Hapara workspace. In 2011, Google sites landed and teaching made visible to students and parents.
Chalk and talk- Phil Margretts
Phil Margrettes introduced Chrome Browser and showed few features of it. Then we were put into our bubble to practice setting up profile and profile picture. I was happy with my profile picture, so I didn't change it. However, I do know how to change the profile picture.
Deep Dive Google Group - Vicki
groups.google.com was a new thing for me. I was a member of many groups. However, I didn't know how to see how many groups I was a member of. I came to know many features of google groups. I added a group as my favourite group. I learned how to work around google groups. I learned :
- How to create group, name the group, add members while creating group and in the middle aswell.
- You can add the members directly or send an invite
- privacy options
- How to favourite the group
- It's an easy way to share resources with particular group of people with a single click.
Drive -Naomi
Naomi went through google drive session and how to organise the drive. My drive was messy and I need to tidy. It looks amzing now after tidying it up some files. Still lot more tidying needed!
Google docs -Vicki
I learned about different features of Google doc. I didn't know that I could do so much more on google doc. I have used basic features of Google doc so far. To be honest I was struggling to do the tasks given and I haven't finished it. I think I needed more time to explore and learn. I have kept unfinished task in my to do list next week when I have non contact.
